You may have heard how Michael Connelly’s latest crime thriller, “Fair Warning”, came by its title. This third bestseller in the Jack McEvoy series finds Jack working as an investigative reporter for our nonprofit news organization. Of course, unlike Michael’s fictional hero, the real FairWarning does not track down serial killers; rather, we dig deeply on other stories that matter and might otherwise not get told.
Michael, who is also a board member of FairWarning, recently recorded an interview with Myron Levin, our founder and editor, who is also a character in the book. You can view the interview here. A longer conversation between them about the book and the state of the news business is part of the “Fair Warning” audiobook.
I am reading Fair Warning right now and am totally fascinated by what I am learning about DNA testing and the study of the human Genome. I love the story line and the manner in which Jack has perceived what has led the perpetrator to his victims. Excellent book.
I finished reading the Italian translation and once more time I told to myself that Michael Connelly is for sure my favorite writer but probably the best all over the world. Thanks a lot, Michael!
I write from Italy and I would like to read Michael’s books in English, many years ago
I have read some Dick Francis in English, but now
I think to be too old, and/or lazy, and I prefer to read in Italian.
Loved the book, – just couldn’t put it down (and I’ve put down plenty believe me), best thriller I’ve read in years. Great mix of fiction and fact at the end came as a surprise.
And, it makes you think long and hard about future implications of storage of DNA and how it may be used.
And finally – did Rachel say yes then? Of course she did, – why did she call back so quick otherwise??
Going back to the first Jack McEvoy book now!
I’ve read all of Michael Connelly. Love his books. This book was special as it introduced me to FairWarning. Myron is committed and his publication is so relevant. I am an oldie from the days of Izzy Stone and Ralph Nader (before he lost it) and I love Myron’s publication. I will donate and I hope you two fellows keep on keeping on.
The book was great and the story line will make me think about DNA testing now.
Thank you for for what you do and for being a great character in the book.
Tom
Just finished Fair Warning. Captivating from beginning to end. At least Gwyneth got her wish !’ Keep writing, Michael.
Respectfully,
John Huber
Loved the book, as I do all of Connelly’s. Scary info about the lack of regulations re DNA sites. Governments worldwide (I live in Canada) need to open their eyes to the Pandora’s box this industry represents.
Look forward to the next read from this amazing author!
Just finished “Fair Warning” and went to the website. ” Fair Warning” is a must read. Michael, I hope you are reading these as well. You can’t end the book with “It was Rachel” without a follow up. And yes, when it comes to relationships, tell Jack he is an idiot.
I really enjoyed Fair Warning and the bonus was listening(audio) to Connelly and discovering that Fair Warning and Myron really exist
Like the website so far
Makes me want to will everything I have to Fair Warning. Excellent book excellent newspaper.
Just finished fair warning great story told by the master. One question: couldn’t shrike be identified through fingerprints of the corpse as he was a prisoner?
Great book and website! It’s literally a breath of fresh air after staying indoor for 10 days due to the heavy smoke from the wildfires. This is the first book I borrowed from the local library after it re-opened from the pandemic shutdown. And the book will be uniquely memorable to me not just because of that.
Great book and website. I have a question about the book. I’m aware of the dark web but is there any evidence that as these geology businesses sell DNA, incels are seeking women based on components of their DNA? Scary stuff if this is happening.
Great book! So glad to find out about Fair Warning website. Wonderful advertisement for them. Kudos Mr Connelly. I have always been a fan of Bosch and of late, Jack and Rachel. Of course, I am one of those hopeless romantics that think Jack should get therapy and quit swamping his relationship with Rachel. Nevertheless, Jack is one of my favorite guys. I do a lot of Audible books and you will be glad to know that there are times that your books have me screaming, cheering and sometimes holding head in my hands moaning at the computer. I need more Jack and Rachel in my life so get to writing sir!
Just finished Fair Warning! Love everything Michael Connolly writes, big fan, read all his books. Glad Jack McEvoy is back! Hopefully, more books are coming with his character. It was a bonus to discover that FairWarning is real! I am now of fan of their website and will continue to go to them for good investigative journalism.
I just finished an audiobook of Fair Warning. I started the book yesterday and couldn’t put it down. The DNA aspect was very interesting, and the action in the story made for a “page turner”. I was torn between listening to the book on a faster speed so I would know the plot and outcome sooner and on and playing the book on a slower speed so I could enjoy it for an even longer time.… I am looking forward to the next Jack McEvoy Appearance!
Just finished this audio version. Amazing. There hasn’t been one book by Connelly I didn’t like. The Bosch Amazon series is so spot on with each character as well as the details. Thank you for shedding light on FairWarning.org! It’s definitely a breath of fresh air and I’m pleased to finally have a source I can lean on for trusted information. Thank you to Connelly and Levin and all the staff members that brought this into the light. I can’t wait to read more from both men :)
I posted this on FB:
Love this book! I listened to it this week in my iphone from our local library and stayed up all night. So good to find out that the non-profit FairWarning exists and we can get the opposite of fake news. Non-profits are in a world of hurt now (my heart breaks for the clients of Senior Services for South Sound, the non-profit I am currently on furlough from) so I resonate with FairWarning’s passion for unbiased, bedrock news that touches people’s lives and the need to find benefactors in this time when our Centers are closed and congregate fundraising events no longer possible. Non regulation of the DNA analytic companies is disheartening and rather frightening… glad I haven’t sent my DNA out, even tho I got it as a gift a few years ago. I highly recommend this book and fairwarning.org!
Great story! Loved the audiobook. He has a real gift for getting the reader inside the main character’s head. Whether a reporter, officer, or an attorney, everything seems authentic. Heck his writing got me to subscribe to you and donate!!
Great interview,, and awesome book. My brother and I have read all of Michael Connelly’s books, and I luckily got to see him in person in Sydney at Castle Hill Library.
Excellent read..Thanks
I’m now a fan of FairWarning and
Connelly
Michael Connelly is my top number one author of the genre and I can’t even wait for one day when I know that a book by him is going to be released! I just finished Fair Warning and loved every page of it! It was such a fantastic page turner that I even forgot to eat meals and finished it in a couple of days! The fact that FairWarning exists makes it so real and while I was reading the book I was thinking that Myron Levin was a great name for such a wonderful a character in that book and how surprised I was to read later that he really exists! Jack McEvoy is such a wonderful protagonist. I wish we’d read more about him. I look forward to every Bosch novel as well, I’m a huge fan of Bosch and I love the way Connelly writes! He is the master. Don’t give up on Jack McEvoy and don’t give up on Harry Bosch! I salute you Connelly…
Fair Warning was as exciting as The Poet, my favorite book. Wish that I was able to donate and get a leather bound, signed copy. But, am thrilled just to add Fair Warning to my MC library.
It captures you from the first page to the last. Jack is back. He is relentless as a reporter and has a brilliant mind. He is able to extrapolate pieces of a puzzle and follow a line that nobody else sees. He is a genius at that but flawed (much like Harry Bosch); he cannot stop once he sees a connection regardless of what it may cost him.
Just finished Fair Warning, excellent book. Hard to put down. Read all of Michael Connelly’s books. Love them.
I just finished Fair Warning!! What a page turner!!! I believe I could start it again right now. Love the characters! Was hoping Jack would get back with Rachael. Third times a charm in the next book??
(I also love the Bosch series!)
With the interview at the end, I had to visit the web site. It looks like this is where you can hear the “truth”!! It gets tiring reading, or listening to stuff you know isn’t true!! After reading some articles I feel there is “truth here”!
I just finished reading the book and looking forward to next book!
This is by far one of the best books Connelly has written. I have been a Bosch fan from the start and now I am an avid Jack McEvoy fan. Please write more Jack soon! And thank you to Fair Warning for participating in this awesome thriller. I will check back here as often as I can.
As expected, I just finished another terrific Michael Connelly novel and was interested in FairWarning.org. The unregulated use of DNA is a fascinating and utterly scary concern. Almost as concerning that next season might be the last season of Bosch.
I just finished Fair Warning and headed, immediately,to this website. I will become a donar as soon as I can. The book is excellent, but most of them are. And my reason for subscribing to Amazon Prime was to see the Bosch series. BTW, Titus Welliver is my new crush.
Now, I will become a regular viewer of this website. Thanks for the work you do.
Really enjoyed Fair Warning. What a thought about the bad people out there playing with our DNA. Need to be careful folks.
Read most of Michael’s books, which are terrific.
I have read all of Michael’s novels. Fair Warning is as good
Noel Maxwell, Bayswater, Australia.
I just finished and very much enjoyed the book. Two of the locations in the Valley were very close to my former residences. The detailed descriptions of LA streets and cross streets are one of the features that makes Michael Connelly books so easy to relate to, as I can imagine myself in that exact spot watching the action.
This is a great book! I’ve read all of Connelly’s books, and this might be the best one. I’m anxious to see where this goes.
I am a fan of your books, Harry Bosch novels being my all time favorite. However, Fairwarnig is now one of the best novels I’ve read in quite awhile. I am a slow reader, but finished fair warning in a matter of a few days.
It truly was a page turner for me. I sure hope we get another McEvoy/Wailling novel (about Charisse’s sister?) Very soon.
Plus, your new Bosch novel character from the late show is a keeper! Love her.
Thanks for helping me escape this messed up political world climate.

Well, the book has arrived in Australia and I think it’s great. Enjoyed reading something that is using today’s technology and thinking.
Jack is Back. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this signed hardback book, in these digital days. It might be part of my DNA. The online events are excellent, but I must admit To missing the signing events.
It was a cool interview and a surprise after the end of the audiobook. I wrote my own story about it on my blogsite https://www.jpmyersdomain.com/2020/06/michael-connellys-new-book-fair-warning.html
I beat you by about 6 days :))
