Although the percentage of American adults who smoke has hovered at about 20 percent since 2004, people are smoking less, according to a new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a smoking ban at California’s state parks and beaches, saying it would have been too much of an intrusion into people’s lives.

The U.S. Navy has banned smoking below deck on all submarines, and will offer sailors medication and support to help them kick the habit, Admiral John J. Donnelly, commander of the Navy’s Submarine Forces, has announced.
