Title:
Color Rush 1903
Date:
October 12, 1903
Description:

An unidentified man sits atop a pole amid the Freshman and Sophmore Color Rush. Color Rush was an annual contest between freshmen and sophomore students that occurred on the vacant lots east of Engineering Hall. Each class sought to obtain the colors of the opposing side, which were hoisted the top of a greased metal pole. Injuries, including bruised limbs and minor bone fractures, were not uncommon, and by the end of the contest, many participants had their clothing stripped from their bodies. The Color Rush tradition was retired in 1908 in favor of the milder game "Push Ball."
