Honda has announced yet another recall due to an air bag flaw blamed in two deaths and 18 injuries.
As USA Today reports, the problem air bags could inflate with too much pressure in a crash, sending pieces of metal and plastic flying. In a news release, the company said the recall — its fifth since 2008 related to faulty air bags — applies in the U.S. to 273,000 Honda and Acura vehicles from the 2001 through 2003 model years.
The company also announced that it plans to inspect another 603,000 cars because they may have received flawed air bag replacement parts.
A spokesman for Tokyo-based Honda said the latest recall stemmed from a problem with the chemical used to deploy air bags. He said the company now believes it is aware of all of the air bag problems, which have accounted for about 2 million recalls worldwide, and that no more recalls will be necessary.
According to the company, air bag problems with its vehicles were tied to two deaths in 2009.
The latest recall applies to certain Accord, Civic, Odyssey, CR-V, Pilot, Acura 3.2 TL and Acura 3.2 CL vehicles.
