Japanese authorities have suspended the use of two vaccines made by drug giants Pfizer Inc. and Sanofi-Aventis SA following last week’s death of four children who received the inoculations.
As Bloomberg reports, the victims, who were all under the age of 2 when they died, each received either Sanofi’s ActHIB or Pfizer’s Prevenar, or both. The vaccines are used to prevent forms of meningitis and pneumonia.
The companies say that they are working with the Japanese health ministry, which on Tuesday will assess the findings of its preliminary investigation into the deaths.
“No causal relationship has been established between immunization and these fatalities, but an investigation is under way, which we’re fully cooperating with,” said Victor Carey, the medical director of Sanofi’s Asia-Pacific vaccines unit. The company’s ActHIM vaccine has been given to more than 200 million children worldwide.
Both of the vaccines have been used for more than a decade in the U.S., without reported problems. According to Reuters, at least three children in the Netherlands have died after receiving the ActHIB immunization, though a subsequent investigation announced last year that there was no relationship between the vaccines and the deaths.

Sad but this happens. I am not happy that the big pharma uses mercury as a preservative in some vaccines. This is crazy that mercury is used.
The DPT is also considered dangerous by many….and this is from another news source.
Three of the four infants received Prevnar and ActHIB together, and at least two also received a combination vaccine against diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus, according to Reuters.
Could be a bad batch also.
I have looked for the news in three big English newspapers published in Japan but none talks about this incidence at all. Suspition of information control?
