In its second major product recall this year, Ford Motor Co. is calling back 280,000 of its best-selling F-150 pickup trucks to repair a door handle spring that could fail in a side-impact accident, causing the door latch to open.
According to the recall notice, owners of certain 2009 and 2010 F-150s with chrome interior door handles should take their vehicles to a dealer “if any interior door handle is loose or fails to return to the stowed position after activation.” Ford said there were no incidents or injuries reported as of late last month, but that it was responding “in an abundance of caution.”
The affected vehicles were built at plants in Kansas City, Mo., and Dearborn, Mich., areas between Jan. 18, 2008 and Nov. 30, 2009. Last month, Ford announced a recall of 525,000 1999-2003 Windstar minivans to address a corrosion-related problem with the front frame.
