Tuesday night’s National Basketball Assn. contest between the New York Knicks and Orlando Magic was postponed after asbestos-related debris fell into the arena during overnight maintenance at Madison Square Garden, according to a statement from the Knicks.
The maintenance included cleaning up asbestos materials in the attic above the ceiling.
Saying they were calling off the game in “an abundance of caution”, team officials said they had hired independent experts and would not reopen the arena until they were certain it was absolutely safe.
