Ford Motor Company is voluntarily recalling 33,728 of its Transit Connect vehicles because a defect could lead to increased risk of injury.
The Transit Connect is a compact delivery and cargo van designed for business use.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the vehicles do not meet a federal safety standard that requires that vehicle interiors be designed to reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a crash.
In tests, “the vehicle exceeded head injury criteria requirements,” the agency said.
Ford had not received any reports of accidents or injuries resulting from the defect, The Detroit News reports.
The recall includes model year 2010 Transit Connect vehicles manufactured between Dec. 5, 2008 and May 31, 2010.
The automakers will notify owners and dealerships, and repair the vehicles at no cost. Owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
In a separate action, Chrysler is recalling 22,000 vehicles because of defective brakes. Improperly formed brake tubes could lead to a loss of brake fluid and affect the ability to stop the car.
The recall includes some model year 2010 Dodge Nitro and Dodge Ram 1500 pickup trucks, as well as certain 2010 Jeep Liberty and Jeep Wrangler SUVs.
Dealers will replace the brake tubes free of charge. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
