Brake Problems Prompt BMW to Recall 15,000 Motorcycles

BMW of North America LLC is recalling 15,532 motorcycles to fix faulty brake lines that could lead to brake failure, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

According to the agency, the brake lines could be affected by normal vibration from the motorcycle, causing them to split or leak, and possibly fail.

The recall includes K 1200 AND R 1200 series motorcycles from model years 2007-2009.  They were manufactured between 2006 and 2009.

New brake lines with a protective sleeve will be installed free of charge, according to BMA of North America LLC.

The recall will begin in July. Motorcycle owners can also call BMW at 1-800-525-7417

We have a K 1200 BMW with supposedly a superior brake system. It went out after 36,000 miles last year, fortunately with only my husband on a low-speed street in our development. BMW refused to pay for its replacement cost of $2,500, since it is a 2006 bike and beyond the 3-year warranty.

We will NEVER purchase another BMW bike again. They do not stand behind their products, and we will not put our lives into their hands again.
