Washington State Slaps BP Refinery with 13 Safety Violations

Regulators in Washington state announced 13 safety violations against a BP refinery Wednesday. The 225,000 barrels a day Cherry Point refinery was cited for serious violations and fined $69,200. Among the violations was the failure to keep any record of response to 38 safety recommendations, Reuters reports.

The refinery was also cited for failing to routinely inspect or maintain safety control devices and inaccurate instrument diagrams. The inspection at the plant in Blaine, Wash., was part of a nationwide crackdown on safety violations after a 2005 BP refinery explosion in Texas City, Texas. BP has 15 days to appeal the citations.
