OSHA Slaps Three Companies with Nearly $300,000 in Fines

Three companies were cited Monday by federal officials for violating workplace safety standards. The U.S. Department ofLabor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited Importers Service Corp. of Jersey City, N.J., for a deficient system for controlling the release of hazardous energy, inadequate protective equipment for workers and electrical hazards, among other violations. The proposed fines total $158,500.

Har-Conn Chrome Co. Inc. of Hartford, Conn., was cited for 45 serious violations, including exposing employees of its metal finishing plant to potential hazards including electrocution, fire and toxic substances. OSHA is proposing $77,500 fines.

White Horse Construction of Parkersburg, Pa., was cited for failing to protect employees from potential falls from roofs and scaffolds. OSHA is proposing $56,000 in fines.

All companies have 15 business days to comply, request a meeting with OSHA officials or contest the violations and penalties before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
