Drugmaker Novartis agreed to pay $72.5 million in a settlement over false claims associated with cystic fibrosis drug TOBI. The original lawsuit, filed by three whistleblowers, alleged the company submitted fraudulent bills to government health care programs for off-label uses of the drug. The settlement money will be divided among the U.S. government, various states, and the three whistleblowers and their lawyers, the Department of Justice said in a press release.
Separately, the Food and Drug Administration sent a warning letter to Novartis for promoting off-label uses of one of its drugs, Gleevac, on two websites sponsored by the company.
