Michigan has become the 24th state to ban texting while driving. Gov. Jennifer Granhold signed the anti-texting bill on Oprah Winfrey’s “No Phone Zone Day” program.
“The streets in Michigan will be safer with these laws on the books,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said in a statement. “Distracted driving is an epidemic that kills thousands and injures hundreds of thousands more every year. Drivers should always devote their full attention to the road, not to texting and talking on a cell phone.”
