Governor Vetoes Smoking Ban at California Parks

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a smoking ban at California’s state parks and beaches, saying it would have been too much of an intrusion into people’s lives.

The ban was passed by the state Senate in April and would have allowed a $100 fine for smoking in designated areas of state park and beaches, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Many local governments in California, including Los Angeles, Hermosa Beach and Torrance, have already banned smoking at their beaches, the Daily Breeze reports. Schwarzenegger, who put up a smoking tent at the state capitol, said smoking bans should be left to local governments.
