FDA Warns of Lead in Vita Breath Dietary Supplement

The Food and Drug Administration warned consumers that Vita Breath, an herbal supplement intended for asthma sufferers, could contain dangerous levels of lead. The warning was issued after the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene reported a patient with lead poisoning who had taken Vita Breath. The department analyzed a sample of the supplement and found it contained 10,000 times the FDA’s maximum recommended level of lead in candy. Lead poisoning can cause damage to the nervous system and internal organs.
