A new study shows melanoma, a deadly skin cancer, might be linked to pesticide exposure among agricultural workers. From the study abstract, published in Environmental Health Perspectives:
Most previous melanoma literature has focused on host factors and sun exposure. Our research shows an association between several pesticides and melanoma, providing support for the hypotheses that agricultural chemicals may be another important source of melanoma risk.
At least one of the chemicals identified as possibly contributing to the risk of skin cancer is a common backyard pesticide.
