Federal regulators have cited two companies for violating workplace safety laws, proposing a total of more than $200,000 in fines.
AmeriCold Logistics, a food transportation and storage company, was cited for seven serious violations, which are defined as hazards that could result in death or severe physical harm to workers, according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The violations included failure to protect ammonia piping from rupture and lack of an adequate respirator for employees. OSHA also cited the company for four repeat violations and one lesser violation for a total of $153,000 in proposed penalties.
Fleetpride Inc., a distributor of truck parts, was cited for three serious violations, including defunct emergency lighting, and four repeat violations, including for inadequate personal protective equipment. From the OSHA press release on Fleetpride:
These types of violations show the disregard the company has for the safety and welfare of its employees,” said OSHA Area Director Kathy Webb in North Aurora, Ill. “Those who ignore safe practices and OSHA regulations are inviting tragedy into the lives of their workers.”
Both companies have 15 business days to contest the findings.
