Federal safety regulators on Wednesday released 15 years of data on workplace exposure to toxic chemicals. The data has been posted on the website of the U.S. Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and includes measurements of asbestos, lead and other hazardous chemicals taken by inspectors.
“We believe this information, in the hands of informed, key stakeholders, will ultimately lead to a more robust and focused debate on what still needs to be done to protect workers in all sectors, especially in the chemical industry,” said Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA Dr. David Michaels.
Also on Wednesday, OSHA directed inspectors to begin checking and verifying that non-English speaking workers are receiving required health and safety training in a language they understand.
