A Southwest Airlines jet with 124 people on board came within 200 feet of a Cessna while trying to land in Burbank, California on Monday, the National Safety Transportation Board said today.
Neither plane took evasive action, and federal authorities are investigating the incident, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Federal aviation safety regulators have made preventing near-misses a top priority. There were 12 of the most serious near-misses in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30 of 2009, down from 25 in fiscal year 2008, Bloomberg reports.
