Efforts by health authorities to discourage indoor tanning because it causes cancer may have hit an unforseen hurdle. A study published today in the journal Archives of Dermatology suggests that about one-third of college students who soak up fake rays are addicted to artificial tanning, and may need professional help to quit.
The health reform bill includes a 10 percent tax levy on indoor tanning, and a panel of health experts urged the Food and Drug Administration last month to ban tanning for people under 18 and to regulate tanning equipment more stringently. But the study’s authors say tanning addicts may be suffering from underlying mood disorders and need treatment for addiction.
The survey also found that frequent fake tanners drink more alcohol and smoke more marijuana than other students, Bloomberg reports.

I am not a huge fan of tanning, but you know what, I have been in those beds before and they just don’t seem to do anything for me. I lay in their bored out of my mind for 10-15 minutes and come out with some artificial orange looking tan. On top of that, during summer months, I’ll go out and get my natural tan but I don’t need to make me skin look at all leathery to be attractive… It’s gross. I find women who have leathery orange-ish skin just hideous. Finally someone actually agrees with me on how stupid all this is… http://www.lionsdenu.com/omg-if-you-love-tanning-youve-got-to-see-this/ … and by no means does this Dr. Richalds guy hold back … wow
ive been tanning for years and have had no fake orange look so it must be the cheap lotion further more as for the study commented above nor have i ever used alcohol or drugs. i myself am a registered nurse.
