Now that Pfizer has joined GlaxoSmithKline, Eli Lilly and Merck in reporting their payments to doctors, at least one company has formed to organize the huge amount of data, The New York Times reports. The drug makers are disclosing payments to doctors in advance of a health care reform provision that will require more complete disclosure starting in 2013.
Obsidian Healthcare Disclosure Services, founded by a former Merck lawyer, has created PharmaShine, a Web site that culls disclosure data from various sources and allows consumers to search individual doctors for free. The site also offers a $799-a -month service that compiles and tracks money specific doctors received from drug and medical device companies. PharmaShine hopes to sell its service, currently stocked with more than 21,000 physician listings, to hospitals and other interested medical and health organizations.
