The owner of a crane company and one of his employees were indicted in New York City today on charges stemming from the 2008 deaths of two workers in a crane collapse. Owner James Lomma and the employee, Tibor Vaganyi, were accused of putting a crane back into use after concealing faulty repairs from city inspectors. The crane, owned by New York Crane and Equipment Corp, collapsed on apartment buildings in the Upper East Side, killing two construction workers. Lomma and Vaganyi pleaded not guilty to charges of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, citing a passed inspection by building officials the day before the crane was put back in use.
The Associated Press covered the indictment here (via the Wall Street Journal).
The crane collapse was the second in the city in two months, The New York Times reported.
