A dozen roofing contractors working in Albany, N.Y. have been fined for serious violations while fixing roofs damaged by hailstorms last summer, The Albany Business Review reports.
Inspectors from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration found mostly untrained, non-English-speaking workers were exposed to falls and injuries from a lack of protective equipment.
Roofing has one of the highest injury rates of any occupation, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
