A top cardiologist criticized heart organizations for close relationships with the drug industry, though he erred on the groups’ ties to Coca-Cola.
Speaking Tuesday at a conference of the American College of Cardiology, the Cleveland Clinic’s chief cardiologist, Dr. Steven Nissen, chided the college for giving continuing medical education credits for a seminar sponsored by Merck, where a Merck drug was touted.
“That is wrong. It shouldn’t happen,” the college’s chief executive officer, Dr. Jack Lewin told the Associated Press.
Nissen also criticized the American Heart Association for taking money from Coca-Cola, which is false, according to sources cited by the Associated Press.
