Gun Advocates Campaign for Open-Carry Laws

Open-carry gun proponents have been stepping up their push to protect the right to carry firearms in California’s public places. It is legal to carry an unloaded weapon in plain sight, but some businesses, such as Peet’s Coffee and California Pizza Kitchen, have banned guns in their establishments. Now the Brady Campaign is pressuring Starbucks to do the same, but so far without success.

According to recent news reports, a Facebook group that calls itself the Bay Area Open Carry Movement has been visiting restaurants to publicize its cause. Over the weekend at Baker Beach, which is federal land and allows guns, the San Francisco Chronicle reported friction when park rangers wanted to check the group members’ guns.
